Sugar Camp is an outstanding privately owned golf facility. Built on 70 acres of rolling hillside running along Quicksand Creek in the Noctor area of Breathitt County, the course offers a wonderful golfing experience for a 9 hole facility.

The Riviera Bermuda fairways, L-93 Bentgrass greens and tees, and five well-placed
white sand bunkers provide fine playing conditions one would not expect from a “small privately-funded Eastern Kentucky golf course.”

The layout plays to a par 36, and is over 6,900 yards from the Championship tees.
There are five sets of tees making the course playable for all skill and experience
levels.

The course is open year around and is semi-private offering yearly memberships and daily fees rates. The Club has an EZ Go rental cart fleet for use by members and the public.

Southfork Elk Viewing Station

Accessible by road, the Southfork Elk Viewing Station in Breathitt County allows you to view the largest elk herd in Kentucky. Surrounded by beautiful skies, wetlands, ponds, and a variety of plant and animal life, the facility provides a gorgeous panoramic view of the Eastern Kentucky hills.

From Jackson, travel south 3 miles on KY 15; turn left on HWY 1098; travel 16 miles and turn right on a newly paved road surrounding the hillside point identified as "Southfork Elk View"

Breathitt County Museum

The Breathitt County Museum is a virtual storehouse of Appalachian history. Exhibits include logging, coal mining, farming home life, education and military. The museum also features an outstanding photograph collection which depicts early life in the Kentucky Mountains. “A non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the rich Appalachian heritage of Breathitt County.”

Group tours (on request); free to the public; donations welcomed and accepted. Hours: Monday thru Friday 9am-3pm. Directions: Take Hwy 15 to Jackson, turn left on Main Street. Go two blocks past the Washington Avenue intersection and turn left on Broadway.

Breathitt County War Memorial

The Breathitt County War Memorial is located in the courthouse yard. The memorial is dedicated to all Breathitt Countians who have served our country during modern times. Special memorial monuments include those who died during WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. A special wall is included which is made up of veterans bricks.

Douthitt and Kiwanis Park

If you enjoy outdoor activities such as soccer, basketball, canoeing, etc., you will find Douthitt Park offers you a beautiful recreational area. Just want to sit back and enjoy the great outdoors? Douthitt Park also offers a walking trail, playground for the kids and several picnic shelters. During your stay in Jackson, why not pack a picnic lunch and spend a fun-filled day at Douthitt Park!

Panbowl Lake

Located within the city limits of Jackson, Panbowl Lake is one of the better game fishing lakes in all of Kentucky. It features a boat dock. The lake is abundant in both gass and crappie.

Less than 40 minutes away in neighboring Perry County, Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park is a wonderful place to visit. Positioned just along the edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest, this resort appeals to nature-lovers or anyone who just wants to get away from it all.
